Announcing the most popular online shopping hours

Did you know that shoppers of Sara Says Boutique most likely shop on Wednesday's at 1 o'clock in the afternoon?
Yes, they do! It is the most popular time according to my site's traffic reports.
The second most popular time is Monday at 1 o'clock in the afternoon and 8 p.m.
Sunday evenings are busy too.
I guess we are talking about during the children's nap time for stay-at-home moms and after lunch time for those at work.   8 p.m. is for when the kiddos are already in bed and everyone can shop!  But what about T.V. programs I wonder?  I am ready to watch a show at that time of night instead of shopping.  I guess there's always one night of the week where there are no good shows on and that's when people do their shopping!  Funny!

Trash needs style too!

In recognition of fall, I decided to make my new key chain and trash holder for my car out of my fave fall fabric!

I have been in need of a different key chain and I also saw an auto trash bag holder on this website that I just loved!

But since I can make one up myself I did.  It has been on my mind for several weeks and finally had a small block of time to finish it.

I plan to do a Christmas one and one for Spring after that.

Here is mine:
Keep in mind FALL - that is why I chose this fabric.

and the key chain:
I just love this type of keychain.  It is a wristlet style which is GREAT for wearing around your wrist when you don't have your purse with you.
It's also great for when you are loading your groceries into the car and need your keys outside of your purse so you don't have to go digging around in there to find them again.

It's a corduroy fabric I got from Joann's with a chocolate brown background, although it looks a little eggplant in this picture. I had made something out of it already here.
For the key chain I ordered the hardware from J. Caroline.  .80 cents each.
So you cut out the fabric and fold it over with the seam one one edge of keychain.  You fold under the edges to meet and sew a line of stitching along one end, then down the other end.  Just make sure you fold it so that it will fit exactly the width of the key fob hardware.
Here's what I did: First I used some stiff iron-on interfacing on the wrong side of fabric.  Then I used a layer of low-loft batting on top of that.  Then you just fold over and fold in the edges and iron, pin together and stitch.
For the trash bag holder I used some iron-on vinyl for the inside lining.
I wanted it for shape most of all and also in case some sticky stuff got inside the bag and I could then just wipe it out.
You just follow the instructions on the package, ironing on the vinyl to the wrong side of fabric before sewing together.  I put a piece of clear tape under my presser foot so that it would glide along smoother.
I made some straps out of the leftover fabric because I could not find anything else I had that looked good with it. I wanted to use twine but couldn't locate it.

Haunted house applique tween shirt

I have a 9 yr. old who understandably does not want to wear anymore appliqued shirts.  However, she did see this haunted house design I could do and wanted it on her black shirt.
I think it turned out super cute!  It took me forevah to stitch out but worth it nonetheless.

By the way we have some new shirts in to the shop:
blank ruffle tees in white or in red.

You could do some appliques or monograms on them.
These are all posted on the site.  Appliques.
If it's not there just use the contact form and we can get it for you.

We have a few of these brown dress sets left.  They are so cute with a monogram!
Brown Empire Dress Set with leggings.  $20
For $20 you can afford to have a cute little seasonal outfit monogrammed.
The monogram costs a little more extra but it's worth it!

How cute is your child's dance bag?

A neighbor of mine asked if I could make her 3 yr. old a tote bag to use for dance class.
She needed it big enough to fit shoes.
Her daughter also requested it be blue so that is why she needed a custom made bag.

So here is what I did:
It's blue inside and out, has some batting in between layers for a soft & cushy feel,  some short handles with ribbon on top, and of course, a monogram!

What is your favorite type of tote for your child's dance class?

Here is one of my favorites - a baton carrying case for my daughter's first baton class.

They were like $25 to order from the teacher so I decided to make our own.

It matches the glitter tape on her baton.
It is made out of blue shimmery vinyl purchased at Joann Fabric, some nylon webbing for straps, a blue zipper, and some plaid seersucker lining.
